SEMTEC The SE MN preK-12 Technology Coordinators

Welcome to SEMTEC! Home of SE MN Educational Technology Leaders!

Great free / low cost tools that you use on your PCs & Servers.

Thanks for the links to Eraser and WinDrivers Backup Tool. They will be great additions to our software toolkit!

My addition to this, which you may already be aware of is CCleaner

I use it for the following:

Registry Cleaning:
CCleaner uses an advanced Registry Cleaner to check for problems and inconsistencies. It can check the following:

* File Extensions
* ActiveX Controls
* ClassIDs
* ProgIDs
* Uninstallers
* Shared DLLs
* Fonts
* Help File references
* Application Paths
* Icons
* Invalid Shortcuts and more...

Anyone have more tools they'd like to share?

A listing of some great Network Security tools (many are free, like Wireshark) that work with different platforms is at:
http://sectools.org/. The list is from 2006, but most of the tools are still available. The site includes some nice summaries of each tool, and which platform they are available to work with (Windows, Linux, Mac, etc...)

The list is also quite humbling in a way because it includes some tools that could by used by end-users against your network. But it's good to know what tools are out there
Hijack this shareware

Download at http://www.download.com/Trend-Micro-HijackThis/3000-8022_4-10227353...

Save the log file and upload to this site.

http://www.hijackthis.de/

Allows you to manually edit registry, etc...
Just had an opportunity to use both Eraser and WinDrivers Backup. Great utilities. I'll have to look into Hijackthis as well. Thanks. :)
